Analysis of Chemical Composition Control Limits for Aluminum Alloy Grades in Casting -ZL101(A365)

Gravity Casting /Low Pressure Casting Aluminum Alloy Analysis

Gravity casting, as a crucial metal forming process, is widely used in industries such as automotive, aerospace, and mechanical manufacturing. Aluminum alloys, owing to their excellent strength-to-weight ratio, good castability, and corrosion resistance, are among the most commonly used materials in gravity casting. Based on the provided table of chemical composition control limits for aluminum alloys, this paper offers a professional analysis of the commonly used aluminum alloy grades in gravity casting.

Main Aluminum Alloy Grades and Their Characteristics

ZL101/356.0 Series Aluminum Alloy

ZL101 (corresponding to the international grade 356.0) is a typical representative of the Al-Si-Mg series cast aluminum alloys, featuring the following characteristics:

  • Chemical composition:
    Si content 6.5–7.5% | Mg content 0.25–0.45%
  • Performance characteristics:
Good castability | Moderate strength | Excellent corrosion resistance
  • Heat treatment:
Strength can be further improved through T5 or T6 heat treatment
  • Applications:
Widely used in automotive wheel hubs, engine components, etc.

Standard comparisons:
As shown in the table, different standards (GB/T 1173, ASTM B108, DIN EN 1706) have largely consistent requirements for the chemical composition of the same alloy, though corporate standards impose stricter controls on certain elements (e.g., Fe).
