Main Aluminum Alloy Grades and Their Characteristics
- ZL101/356.0 Series Aluminum Alloy
ZL101 (corresponding to the international grade 356.0) is a typical representative of the Al-Si-Mg series cast aluminum alloys, featuring the following characteristics:
Chemical composition: Si content 6.5–7.5%, Mg content 0.25–0.45%
Performance characteristics: Good castability, moderate strength, and excellent corrosion resistance
Heat treatment: Strength can be further improved through T5 or T6 heat treatment
Applications: Widely used in automotive wheel hubs, engine components, etc.
As shown in the table, different standards (GB/T 1173, ASTM B108, DIN EN 1706) have largely consistent requirements for the chemical composition of the same alloy, though corporate standards impose stricter controls on certain elements (e.g., Fe).
- ZL101A/A356.0 Series Aluminum Alloy
ZL101A (A356.0) is an improved version of ZL101, with the following key differences:
Stricter impurity control: Fe content limited to below 0.2% (compared to 0.9% in standard ZL101)
Reduced Mn content: ≤0.10% (compared to ≤0.35% in standard ZL101)
Addition of Ti: 0.08–0.20%, serving to refine grain structure
This high-purity aluminum alloy is particularly suitable for castings requiring high mechanical performance and surface quality, such as aerospace structural components.
